Role Summary:
This key role is a member of the Senior Management Team. Along with the Principal, Director of Business Development, and Director of Quality Assurance, they will oversee the day-to-day running of the College.
The role holder will provide leadership across the clinical modules of the MChiro degree programme and within the College’s planned Chiropractic Clinic, due to open in 2026. They will be responsible for fostering a culture of clinical excellence and continuous improvement across these areas to ensure a high-quality experience for patients and students and to further develop and embed the vision and strategies underpinning the College’s clinical work.
The role holder will have line management responsibility for a growing team of Module Leaders, clinical supervisors, and Chiropractic Clinic office staff, and will manage the provision of clinical placements working closely with clinical placement providers. They will undertake teaching and assessment within clinical modules, as agreed, and oversee quality assurance processes within the Chiropractic Clinic and across clinical placements/modules.
The role holder will play a significant role within the College’s academic and clinical governance framework through chairing the Clinical Programmes committee, through membership of the Programme Committee, the Patient & Carer Group, and the Human Participants Ethics Committee, and through developing further the College’s existing relationships with donors and stakeholders.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- As a member of the College’s Senior Management Team, to ensure that all college functions work effectively as an integrated service, participating in and contributing to the overall success of the College (including: strategic planning, setting priorities and objectives, monitoring progress, evaluation of the effectiveness of activities, facilities, human and resource management).
- To contribute to the delivery, evaluation, monitoring, and enhancement of clinical modules within the MChiro programme, undertaking module leadership, teaching, assessment, and moderation as required.
- To line manage module leaders delivering clinical modules and clinical supervisors working within the SCC Chiropractic Clinic, providing support as required for their induction and professional development, managing performance issues, and encouraging the sharing of best practice.
- To engage staff, students, patients, and placement providers in regular evaluation activities in pursuit of improvement and enhancement of provision within clinical modules, clinical placements, and the SCC Chiropractic Clinic.
- To contribute to audits of clinical placement providers, prepare students and providers for their placement responsibilities, monitor student progress and achievement within these, and manage remedial/performance action plans where required.
- To monitor student progress and achievement within the SCC Chiropractic Clinic, ensuring the highest possible standards of patient care and safety, and a high-quality experience for students and staff. This will include: maintaining oversight of intern patient numbers and the Intern Log; approving intern leaves of absence from clinical duties and overseeing arrangements for intern absence; managing Intern Conduct Reports and dealing with any intern disciplinary issues, including unauthorised adjusting.
- To manage patient complaints and issues, compile Patient Incident Reports and Health and Safety Reports as necessary.
- To undertake the annual revision of relevant handbooks, policies/procedures, and clinical forms/documentation for sign-off by the Senior Management Team and ensure the effective communication of policies and guidelines to relevant staff and their compliance with these.
- To contribute to the academic and clinical governance of the college through committee chairing and committee membership
- To facilitate and support research initiatives and projects undertaken within the College and the SCC Chiropractic Clinic
- To work with the Director of Business Development and the Content Officer to create and implement a marketing plan for the SCC Chiropractic Clinic.
- To attend key College events as and when required and represent the College in appropriate forums when designated
- To undertake such additional duties as may be reasonably required.
Person SpecificationAttributes
Education/Qualifications: Essential
· Chiropractic Degree
Education/Qualifications: Desirable
· Further qualification at either Masters or Doctoral level
Experience: Essential
· A chiropractor currently in clinical practice.
· Registered chiropractor with the UK General Chiropractic Council.
· At least five years’ recent experience working within a successful chiropractic practice.
· Experience of authoring accurate, good quality written documentation (reports, policies, handbooks, syllabuses) and of implementing these.
Experience: Desirable
· Strong understanding of the philosophy and direction of the College.
· Experience of teaching and assessment within higher education.
· Track record of working in a senior leadership role, leading and managing change in a complex environment.
· Track record of developing and implementing innovation to support organisational growth and development
· Experience in committee chairing.
